Jaipur, September 1: A 19-year-old woman is said to have been forcefully married to a man in Balotra district after being abducted by a group of men while she was grazing goats. She also testified in court that the accused men beat her and later gang-raped her. Police detained one of the men and had the victim undergo medical testing after a video of the man and woman moving around fire went viral on social media on Wednesday.
The purported wedding allegedly took place on August 21 in the Balotra neighbourhood near Gida police station. The woman and the man were engaged to be married four years ago, according to the police, but the engagement was broken for an unknown cause, which resulted in her kidnapping and forced marriage to the man. They said that after learning of the woman's kidnapping on August 21, police carried out multiple raids in the neighbourhood. The victim and the man she was forcibly married to arrived at the Gida police station on August 28 as the police crackdown intensified. However, the officer noted that the woman's testimonies in court and at the police station were dissimilar.
She testified before the court that she was kidnapped by seven guys, including Hukum Singh, Jaswant Singh, and Sawai Singh, who then beat her and sexually assaulted her in a group.
