Rajasthan Government to Discontinue Pension to Prisoners Detained During Emergency Under MISA

Rajasthan, October 15: The Rajasthan government has decided to discontinue the pension scheme of prisoners detained under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA). The decision was announced by Minister Shanti Dhariwal and he said, "Medical facilities will be regularised but pensions will be stopped as we don't consider them to be freedom fighters."
The decision was announced after the cabinet meeting held on Monday. Thousands of people were held and put behind bars under MISA during the Emergency in 1975. According to a Times of India report, the pension of those detained under MISA during the Emergency was raised from Rs 12,000 to Rs 20,000 per month and their medical assistance was also increased to Rs 4,000 monthly from Rs 1,200.
