Jaipur, Sept 27: In a bizarre incident, doctors of a community health centre (CHC) in Rajasthan's Barmer performed autopsy on the road on "humanitarian grounds" as the nearest mortuary is located 100-km away. Locals, however, have protested against the health department, calling it an excuse to hide their negligence.

CHC officials while speaking to reporters said two women had died of electric shock on Thursday. On the request of their family and police personnel, it was decided not to perform the post-mortem at the mortuary and hand-over the corpses at the earliest. Civic Apathy In Jharkhand: Man Forced To Carry Body Of Newborn On Foot For Eight Kilometres After Denied Ambulance.

The incident was reported from Gadar Road in Barmer district. A 30-year-old woman, identified as Maya Kanwar, was electrocuted. She came in contact with a live-wire while drying the clothes on terrace. Hearing her scream, her mother-in-law Raja Devi and father-in-law Padam Singh rushed to rescue her, but they were also electrocuted.

Devi and Kanwar were declared dead when brought to the CHC, whereas, Singh was rushed to the Barmer district hospital for treatment.

Health officials claimed that the protocol was adopted during the autopsy of deceased despite performing the post-mortem on the road.

Locals in Gadara Road, however, called it an inhumane act and accused the CHC officials of similarly performing autopsy in the open on earlier occasions as well. "If there is no mortuary here, they should take the victims to the Barmer district hospital," said one of the villagers.
