Kota, December 27: The Jay Kay Lon Hospital in Rajasthan’s Kota has ordered an investigation after seventy-seven children died in first 24 days of this month with 10 deaths in 48 hours, The Times of India reported. The hospital, however, has denied negligence in its part and claimed that the deaths all children were brought in critical condition. According to the report, the hospital pointed out that ten children, who died in a period of 48 hours, were extremely critical and on ventilator support. “After investigating, we have found that all the 10 deaths were normal and did not die because of negligence," said a senior doctor from the hospital.

"As per the national NICU records, 20 percent infant deaths are acceptable. In Kota the death percent is 10 to 15 percent. This is not alarming as most of these children were admitted in a critical condition from Baran, Bundi, Jhalawar and even Madhya Pradesh," said Dr A L Bairwa, head of paediatrics, JK Lon Hospital.

The government hospital gets critical patients from Kota, Jhalawar, Bundi, and Baran districts. As per records, 1198 deaths were reported in 2014 and 940 deaths have been reported till December 24 in 2019.
