Mumbai, April 8: In a shocking incident, six employees of the Indian Railways were nabbed for allegedly consuming alcohol during their train travel. Reports inform that six railway employees, out of which two were senior officials, were nabbed for allegedly consuming liquor while travelling on Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express on Saturday. According to a report by TOI, the officials were also travelling without the mandatory authority pass. Alcohol Consumption Data in India: 16 Crore Indians Consume Liquor.
The report informs that a flying squad of the railway vigilance apprehended the six and confiscated liquor bottles from the train coach. The TOI report quotes sources in the Western Railway saying that a total penalty amount of Rs 5,750 was collected from all the six officials and a case has been registered against them. The report further informs that railway officials couldn’t immediately claim the identity of the six immediately. However, officials informed that one holds the rank of assistant commercial manager with Western Railway’s Mumbai division while the other is a vigilance inspector. Both of them are at a senior post in the Indian Railways. Consumption of alcohol on railway premises is a crime. A Western Railway spokesperson said strict action will be taken against those responsible.
In September 2018, three cops in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad were suspended after a video of them drinking liquor went viral on social media. In the same month, two policemen in Noida were suspended for alleged indiscipline after they apparently failed to recognise a vehicle of the Uttar Pradesh police chief.
