Rahul Gandhi Visits Flood-Hit Areas of Kerala, Meets Fishermen And Volunteers Who Carried Out Relief Operations

Congress president Rahul Gandhi has visited flood-affected areas of Kerala today. During his two-day visit to the flood-hit state, Gandhi went to relief camps and met people staying there.

Thiruvananthapuram, August 28:  Congress president Rahul Gandhi has visited flood-affected areas of Kerala today. During his two-day visit to the flood-hit state, Gandhi went to relief camps and met people staying there. The Congress president will also meet fishermen and volunteers who participated in the reliefoperations.

Earlier, Gandhi also slammed the union government for announcing just Rs 500 crore financial aid to the state. According to the state government, property of around Rs 20,000 was damaged in the floods. The Congress president also expressed solidarity to the people of Kerala through his tweets.  He also encouraged people to contribute to the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund.

Kerala is reeling from massive floods due to heavy rains since August 8. Around 400 people have lost their lives in the devastation. The Indian Armed Forces along with other government agencies had also launched the Operation Madad to evacuate people to safer locations. Sluice gates of various dams in the state were also opened to reduce water levels in the reservoirs. All the operation of the Kochi Airport were stopped till August 29 due to floods. Various state governments have also announced financial assistance to Kerala.
