Jalandhar, April 1: In the latest case of cruelty against animals, Jalandhar Police have booked a person after four five-day-old puppies were burnt alive as wild plants were set on fire in a vacant plot on the pretext of cleaning it. The case was registered after an NRI woman hired a vegetable owner to clean the wild growth in her scheme and in that puppies were set on fire along with the bushes.
According to the eyewitness, due to the fire, the puppies were burnt alive as their mother watched helplessly, howling and attempting to save her newborns. Later the mother of the puppies was seen whining near the dead ashes of the innocent animals. Taking the complaint of Reena Kohli into consideration, the Jalandhar police booked Mohadi Lal, a vegetable vendor, under Section 11 (1) of the Prevention of Animal Cruelty Act 1960 and Section 428 of IPC. As per to Kohli, the cruel incident took place on March 27 near Jalandhar’s GTB Nagar Avenue. Soon after the incident, an animal welfare organisation Jeev Welfare Society took up the case that Jalandhar police registered a case on Saturday evening.
Briefing about the incident, Kohli said, as reported by the Indian Express, that when she came to know that plot was being cleaned in such a manner, she tried to stop it. She said, “They ignored me and the NRI lady said nothing was there inside the plot. I then showed them pictures of the puppies which were inside the plot.”
Adding more, she said, “I also told them that burning anything in open is not allowed as per law as it leads to pollution, but she did not pay heed.”
