Chandigarh, September 24: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has ordered holiday in all school and colleges tomorrow due to the heavy rainfall in the state. Meanwhile, the Punjab government has issued a red alert in the states to the excessive rainfall. The state government has also issued directions to all district authorities to remain vigilant.
Heavy rains are lashing the state for the past two days. Disaster Control Rooms have been activated and disaster management teams have been told to remain on standby in case of an emergency. According to media reports, the army has also been kept on standby. Equipment to drain out flood waters are being arranged. The cotton crop in the state has been adversely affected by heavy rains.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to heavy rainfall in various districts of Himachal Pradesh, whereas higher altitudes areas of the state are likely to witness snowfall. All government schools and colleges have also been closed in several districts of the state due to heavy rains. Hilly states of Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand are also reeling under heavy rains.
