Kapurthala, August 3: In a gruesome incident, a resident of Kala Sanghian village in Punjab's Kapurthala, burnt himself, his wife and two of his minor children, in the early hours on Thursday.
According to a report in The Tribune newspaper, Kulwinder Singh, who had returned home from Dubai at 11 pm on Wednesday, August 1, reportedly killed himself and his family by burning them alive.
The report cited sources as saying that Kulwinder Singh took the extreme step infuriated by the news of his wife's alleged extra-marital affair with a man in the village. He had a son and a daughter, named Abhi and Sonal, who were five years and eight years old, respectively.
The most shocking aspect is that Kulwinder's mother and sister, who were reportedly sleeping in another room in the house, did not even get to know about his return to the home until his death.
Kulwinder Singh's mother, Mohinder Kaur, reportedly woke up after smoke started coming out of the room of Kulwinder. After seeing the smoke, she and Kulwinder's sister Jaswinder, entered the room breaking the door, only to find the burnt body of Kulwinder. Kulwinder's wife Mandeep and their two kids were taken to the Civil Hospital in Jalandhar.
The children passed away around noon, and Kulwinder's wife Mandeep Kaur passed away around 3 pm. Kulwinder's sister, Jaswinder, also suffered burns after she entered the room to douse the fire. The police have arrested Gurpreet Singh, who was allegedly in a relationship with Kulwinder's wife, Mandeep Kaur.
According to the newspaper report, the police have also booked Gurpreet's mother, Satya. The WhatsApp messages on the phone of Gurpreet and Kulwinder points toward incitement for committing suicide, said the report.
