Chandigarh, October 3: After facing criticism for failing to control drug menace in the state, the Punjab government has come up with a new plan to control its distribution, catch drug peddler and dismantle the mafia in the state. The Special Group on Drugs (SGOD) in its 56-page report to the Punjab government has suggested introducing the US style campaign "See Something, Say Something" to control the substance abuse. The special group said that this step is to motivate citizens as well as cops to give information on drugs. Punjab CM Urges Police Not to Harass Drug Addicts or Their Families.

As per the 56-page report, there is a provision that rewards citizen and cops for information about drug peddlers and smugglers. In exchange for information on local drug smugglers and small quantities of the drug, the informants will be given a cash reward. The Special Group on Drugs has also said to establish a highly secure prison in Bhatinda for drug smugglers, peddlers and gangsters.

The special group will also be launching an Anti-Drug Anonymous mobile application for information on drug smugglers and peddlers. Tipster and informant identities will remain completely anonymous for their protection.
