Chandigarh, August 8: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday exempted ex-servicemen and senior citizens for a mandatory dope test for issuance and renewal of their arms licences. In July, the Chief Minister had ordered a mandatory dope test on all government employees, including police personnel, from the time of their recruitment through every stage of their service.
From cops to civil servants, all 3.5 lakh government employees in Punjab will now have to take periodic dope tests. The chief minister had directed the Chief Secretary to work out the modalities and issue a necessary notification in this regard, an official spokesperson informed.
The spokesperson further said that dope test would be made mandatory for all recruitments as well as promotions to be made by various Punjab government departments. The mandatory dope test was part of a series of initiatives taken by the chief minister over the past three days to eliminate the drug menace from Punjab.
