Pune, April 16: An incident of acid attack and firing has been reported in Sadashiv Peth area of Pune late on Tuesday evening. The incident caused quite a commotion in the area as police reached the spot. The man also shot at the police, said reports.
According to the latest update, the police has caught hold of the culprit. The man who allegedly attacked a person by throwing acid, was hiding in a nearby residential building.
The man was then caught by the police, hiding in the building. News agency PTI reported that unidentified persons threw acid on a 25-year-old man on the busy Tilak Road here late Tuesday evening, police said.
Two rounds were also reportedly fired during the attack, but this was yet to be verified, they said.
"The injured man was identified as Rohit Thorat. He has been rushed to the hospital," said senior police inspector Sunil Kalgutkar of Vishrambaug police station.
Thorat could not identify the culprits as they ran away after throwing acid, he said. "Further investigation is on," he said.
