Pune, September 25: An Electrician looking for work attacked an 85-year-old woman in front of her house in a housing society near Hinjewadi. The incident occurred on the evening of September 22 when the suspect noticed the victim alone in front of her house and violently assaulted her. After dragging her to the service staircase, he raped her before attempting to strangle her to death. The brutal attack left the elderly woman unconscious, prompting her family to search for her when she did not return home. Concerned relatives eventually found her lying unconscious and rushed her to a nearby hospital for treatment. Following the brutal attack, the Pimpri Chinchwad police swiftly acted on a complaint lodged by the victim's family. The 23-year-old electrician was arrested on September 23, just over 24 hours after the incident. Officers traced the suspect to the Sakhare Vasti area based on a tip-off. During interrogation, as reported by the Times of India, he confessed to his involvement in the heinous crime. The suspect, originally from Dharashiv district, was found to have previously completed electrical work in the same housing society. On the evening of the attack, he had returned to the building in search of work, and upon spotting the elderly woman alone, he seized the opportunity to carry out his assault. The electrician was charged under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 64 for rape, Section 109 for attempted murder, and Sections 115 and 118 for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
Assistant Inspector Vijaykumar Dhumal confirmed that the accused was presented in court, where he was remanded to police custody until September 27. The legal proceedings are underway as the police gather further evidence to build a strong case against him. Meanwhile, the 85-year-old woman remains hospitalized but is reported to be in stable condition.
