Pune, September 26: Due to heavy rains in Pune and its surrounding areas, Pune District Collector Naval Kishore Ram has declared holiday on Thursday for all schools and colleges of Pune city, Purandar, Baramati, Bhor and Haveli tehsil of Pune district. Several low lying areas in and around Pune were flooded as heavy rains lashed the city.

Water-logging was also reported in Sinhgad Road, Dhanakwadi, Balajinagar, Ambegaon, Sahakar Nagar, Parvati, Kolhewadi and Kirkatwadi. People on their way back from their respective offices and place of work had a nightmarish experience because of the waterlogged streets and the traffic snarls. According to an ANI tweet, three teams of NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) have been deployed for flood rescue operations in Pune - one team each at Katraj, Baramati and near Corporation office. Owing to the heavy spell of rain, a wall collapsed in Katraj on Wednesday night.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in parts of the state on Thursday. The Weather Department, however, feels that the intensity is expected to reduce by the end of September 27.

According to a Hindu report, the city’s Shivajinagar area received more than 46 mm rainfall in a just one hour during the intervening night between Monday and Tuesday. The area received another 87.3 mm rainfall between Tuesday and Wednesday, while the Pashan area received 71.8 mm rainfall during the same time.
