Pune Rains Forecast: Heavy Rains to Continue Over Next 72 Hours, 7 of 30 Bridges Shut For Traffic Due to Flood
According to IMD prediction, Pune will continue to receive heavy rainfall in the next 72 hours. 7 out of 30 bridges in the city are shut for traffic due to the floods. Schools and colleges are also shut for the second day in a row due to the rising water level in the city.
Pune, August 6: Following incessant rainfall and massive floods in the city, schools and colleges are shut for the second consecutive day. According to an Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) prediction, Pune will continue to receive heavy rainfall in the next 72 hours. Pune traffic police have appealed to the citizen to stop visiting bridges to see the rising water, amidst the flood-like situation as it disrupts the traffic. On Monday, NDRF rescued 115 people from the flood-affected place in Baner. At a hospital in Hinjewadi area, 50 patients and 120 staff members were also rescued.
According to an Indian Express report, the four rivers that pass through the city — Mula, Mutha, Pavana and Indrayani — were carrying huge amounts of water. The total water storage in the four dams has reached 99.77 per cent of total capacity.
As many as seven of the over 30 river bridges in the city were closed to traffic because they were either submerged or the water level in the rivers had risen very close to the surface. While, the intensity of the rains were less on Monday, but several new areas were flooded in Pune. These bridges will undergo structural audits after the water-level recedes, and only after that, they will be open for traffic.
