Ahmedabad, June 1: In another tragic incident involving underage driving, a 17-year-old boy driving his dad’s SUV struck and critically injured a 16-year-old girl in Ahmedabad’s Hebatpur. The incident occurred in Thaltej, where Diya Prajapati, a Class 10 student, was walking near her home in Sandipani Society. The girl is currently fighting for her life in hospital. This incident follows a similar accident in Pune where a 17-year-old boy, driving his father’s Porsche car under the influence of alcohol, killed two people.

The N Division traffic police have detained the boy and are investigating the incident, including the speed at which the SUV was traveling. A source revealed that the juvenile's parents were not immediately reachable, but his relatives have been contacted by the police. This incident follows a similar case on May 19 in Pune, where a 17-year-old boy driving a Porsche Taycan at over 200 kmph hit a motorcycle, resulting in two fatalities. Pune police subsequently arrested the boy's father and grandfather on suspicion of attempting to cover up the incident.
The authorities in Ahmedabad are urging parents to ensure that their children do not drive without a valid license to prevent such tragedies. The investigation into the Hebatpur incident is ongoing, with the police working to gather all necessary evidence and witness testimonies.
