Pune, June 2: The Pune police has said that the mother of the minor porsche car crash accused, Shivani Agarwal, has claimed that hospital doctors instructed her to give her blood sample in place of her son's, though she feigned ignorance about their reasons. Police had arrested the mother of juvenile who allegedly crashed a Porsche into a motorcycle, killing two software engineers, for tampering with evidence late Saturday afternoon after an investigation found the teen’s blood sample had been replaced with his mother’s.
TOI reported that the arrest was made after it came to light that the blood sample collected at the hospital did not match the boy, as confirmed by a DNA report. Consequently, charges of forgery and destruction of evidence were invoked against her. Commenting on the arrest, Pune Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar informed TOI, "We have recorded the statement of the woman, aged 49. She claimed that hospital doctors instructed her to give her blood sample in place of her son's, though she feigned ignorance about their reasons." A state government-appointed committee's report revealed that the mother, along with two elderly individuals, had given their blood samples instead of the boy after the accident, which resulted in the deaths of two techies in Kalyaninagar.
Eleven people have been arrested in the case, including the 17-year-old’s father, mother and grandfather.
The police had been unable to locate the mother for four days until they discovered she had traveled to Mumbai, returning to Pune on Friday night. She was detained shortly after her return.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shailesh Balkawade stated, "Our team recorded the boy's statement in the presence of his mother."
Investigations revealed that Dr. Ajay Taware, Dr. Shrihari Halnor, and mortuary staffer Ghatkamble Atul Ghatkamble were previously arrested for allegedly swapping the boy's blood sample. The police seized the hospital's digital video recorder showing the boy's family near Ward No. 40 on the day of the incident.
The police are continuing their search for the original blood sample collected from the boy.
