Pune, September 27: The wall of Mutha right bank canal that passes through the Pune City collapsed on Thursday morning. The mishap happened near the Dandekar bridge, Janata Vasahat. The incident has brought the entire traffic at Sinhgad road to a halt and left hundreds of houses submerged in water. Flooding was witnessed in low-lying areas of Parvati hills. At the time of the incident, 1,400 cusecs of water was released, but the irrigation department immediately stopped the further release of water after they were informed about the collapse.
"We immediately stopped the discharge of water from the Khadakwasla dam into the canal. We are working on a war footing to stop the water flow from the canal," the official said.

The sudden flow of water has created a chaos and panic among the residents as well as motorists. The main part of Sinhgad Road and other nearby roads were fully submerged in the water. The Pune civil administration has begun rescue operations for the people who are stuck in their houses.
