Pune, July 6: In a shocking incident in Pune, a farm worker died after a farmer attacked him and his wife following a dispute over missing work. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday night, July 3, saw the farmer allegedly attacking the victims with a machete before running over the farm worker with his car and fleeing from the scene. The farm worker and his wife were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by villagers, where the farmer was declared dead on arrival. Following a complaint from the victim's wife, the police launched an investigation, arresting one accomplice of the accused, while a search is ongoing for the accused, who remains absconding.
As per a report by Times of India, the incident unfolded in Mandvi village near Khadakwasla when the deceased worker, identified as 50-year-old Bharat Walehkar, along with his 45-year-old wife Anusuya was walking back to their residence when the accused spotted them on the road. Furious over their absence from work as demanded, the accused approached them, leading to a heated altercation. The confrontation soon escalated into violence, with the farmer purportedly attacking the couple with a machete. The situation took a fatal turn when the farmer, in a fit of rage, reportedly chased the fleeing couple in his car. As per the report, the farmer intentionally ran over Walehkar, leading to fatal injuries. Despite immediate efforts by villagers to rush Walehkar to hospital, he could not be saved. The accused farmer fled the scene after the brutal act. Anusuya managed to lodge a police complaint despite sustaining injuries, recounting how the farmer, accompanied by an accomplice, subjected them to a vicious assault. Sanjay Paigude, an associate of the accused farmer present during the incident, has been arrested, but the main perpetrator remains at large. Local police have launched a manhunt for the main suspect. Authorities have initiated a thorough investigation, filing charges under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 103-1 (murder) and Section 109-1 (attempt to murder).
