Mumbai, May 6: In a heart-wrenching incident, an 11-year-old boy died after being struck by a cricket ball on private parts while playing with friends in Pune's Lohegaon. The tragedy occurred at the Jagatguru Sports Academy Ground in the Lohegaon area around 9 pm on May 2. According to the report published by the Indian Express, the deceased boy, Shaurya Kalidas Khandve, affectionately known as Shambhu, was a passionate sports enthusiast with dreams of a wrestling career.
He was bowling during a night game when a hit ball struck him, causing him to collapse. Despite being rushed to a nearby private hospital, he was declared dead by attending physicians. A case of accidental death was registered on May 4 at the Vimantal police station. Assistant Inspector Sachin Dhamane, leading the investigation, stated that an autopsy report is pending and witnesses are being interviewed. In September last year, a 15-year-old boy died after a javelin thrown by another student during a practice session pierced his head at a school in Maharashtra’s Raigad district. Hujefa Daware had bent down to tie his shoelace and didn’t realise the pointed object was moving towards him.
The incident occurred at INT English School at Purar, Goregaon, in the Mangaon taluka of the district, when students were practising javelin throwing at the school's ground, he said. Daware was also a part of the javelin team preparing for a taluka-level meet. As the practice session was underway, a fellow student hurled a javelin. However, Daware apparently failed to notice that the long stick with a pointed end was flying in his direction. The teen was hit in the head when he bent down to tie his shoelace.
