According to a Hindustan Times report, the man, a garment trader in Wakad was allegedly attacked with a metal rod and his shop vandalised by a group of eight people after he refused to give them Rs 5,000 donation for their Ganesh mandal. An FIR was lodged at Wakad police station by the victim, who owns the garment shop. The suspects who were from a nearby Ganpati mandal were demanding Rs 5,000 as a donation from him, and when he refused, they attacked him.
In a similar incident in Odisha, ahead of the festive season, Odisha State Private Bus Owners’ Association has asked for the intervention of DGP BK Sharma to put a check on incidents of forcible collection of puja donation. In a memorandum, the private bus association has claimed that they have been facing numerous problems due to such illegal practice in several parts of the State.
