Pune, August 6: The city has been battered with very heavy rainfall, leading to severe waterlogging in numerous places. The Pune-Bengaluru highway is closed for traffic movement from Kolhapur towards Karnataka, due to waterlogging on the highway following heavy rainfall in the region. IMD has predicted that the intensity of the rains witnessed in the last two days, is expected to continue in the next 72 hours. The rising water levels in the Mula, Mutha and Pavana forced traffic police to close six out of the 30 bridges in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad.
Schools and colleges in Pune stay closed for the second consecutive day as heavy rainfall was forcing the release of water from dams into rivers. The decision to extend the holiday was made keeping in mind the safety of the students.

National Disaster Response Force continues to carry out the rescue work in Walva, Islampur and Sangli. 30 people have been evacuated so far. From Sunday, over 600 families had been shifted from low-lying areas to various schools.
