Pune Floods: Death Toll Rises to 11 After City Gets Heavy Rainfall, NDRF Team on Rescue Operation

Heavy rains have lashed the city causing severe waterlogging and a flood-like situation in several areas of Pune. The death toll due to floods in the area has shot up to seven after fire brigade officials recovered one more body, near Sahakar Nagar.

Pune, September 26: Heavy rains have lashed the city causing severe waterlogging and a flood-like situation in several areas of Pune. According to the latest ANI update, the death toll due to floods in the area has shot up to eleven after fire brigade officials recovered one more body, near Sahakar Nagar. A total of 8 bodies have been recovered in city area while 3 bodies are recovered in Khed Shivapur. Pune Rains: Holiday Declared in All Schools And Junior Colleges in Pune City, Purandar, Baramati And Other Tehsils.

Pune District Collector Naval Kishore Ram had declared holiday on Thursday for all schools and colleges of Pune city, Purandar, Baramati, Bhor and Haveli tehsil of Pune district.  Owing to the heavy spell of rain, a wall collapsed in Katraj on Wednesday night and five people died in the tragic incident.

Three teams of NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) have been deployed for flood rescue operations in Pune - one team each at Katraj, Baramati and the other near the Corporation office.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in parts of the state on Thursday. The Weather Department, however, feels that the intensity is expected to reduce by the end of September 27.
