Pune, February 19: In another case of online fraud, a class 12 student in Pune was duped of Rs 3.6 lakh on an online dating portal that promised to set the youth on a blind date with a woman. Reports inform that the student of a local junior college in Pune was asked by the dating platform to deposit the amount for accessing its services. According to a report by Hindustan Times, the online transactions took place for 10 days between 17th November, 2018 and 27th November, 2018. Tinder Horror! The report further states that the boy was duped of Rs 3,64,070 on the mobile application, Locanto, which claims to be an online classified advertisement platform. In the wake of the online fraud, the Pune Police has registered a case under Sections 419 (punishment for cheating by personation) and 420 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 66(c) and 66(d) of the Information Technology Act. A case was registered against unidentified people at the Chatuhshrungi police station.

The HT report informs that the teenager, who is the complainant, used net-banking on his father’s account and carried out the transaction. As the son often operated his father’s phone, he got access to the one-time passwords (OTP) for the transactions. Vaishali Galande, police inspector (crime), Chatuhshrungi police station, who is investigating the case was quoted in the HT report saying that the parents came to know about the transactions when they saw the record of the transactions done that week.
