Pune, September 19: A software engineer from Bengaluru, who arrived in Pune to join a new company, was made to pay Rs 4300 for an 18-km ride by an auto-rickshaw driver. The incident occurred early on Wednesday when the techie took an auto-rickshaw from Katraj to Yerawada. According to the complaint submitted by the techie, the auto-rickshaw driver, who was allegedly drunk, charged him Rs 4300, and he paid the hefty fare because he was scared in the new city. Mumbai: Autorickshaw Driver Arrested for Masturbating in Front of Woman.

After overnight travel, the techie got off the bus in Katraj, on the Katraj-Dehu Road Bypass, around 5 am on Wednesday. When he couldn't book a cab, he stopped an auto-rickshaw that was passing by. According to techie's complaint, there were two men inside the auto-rickshaw. "One man drove the auto-rickshaw, while another on the passenger seat, who was actually the driver, appeared to be drunk," he was quoted by TOI as saying.

The driver told the techie that he had asked his friend to drive to escape police. The men agreed to drop him near Yerawada police station where he was provided with accommodation by the company. The techie didn't notice if the meter was reset to zero. When they reached the destination, the two men asked techie to pay Rs 4300.

"When I protested, they told me they paid Rs 600 to enter the city and will have to pay Rs 600 to leave the city; the rest was the actual fare," he said. The techie got scared as the road was empty and decided to pay the unreasonable fare. Before the men left, he noted the auto-rickshaw’s registration number and later submitted a compliant application to the Yerawada police station. An officer from the police station said they the complaint has been forwarded to the concerned chowky.
