Pune, October 18: A case has been registered against a retired army jawan after his revolver accidentally shot his 13-year-old son in the leg in Dhankawadi, Pune. The incident occurred when the boy, Abhay Shirke, opened a cupboard and accidentally caused a bag containing the loaded firearm to fall, triggering the misfire. Neighbours rushed him to the hospital, where he is now reported to be in stable condition. Police, however, have impounded the revolver and filed charges against the boy’s father for negligence.

According to a report by the Times of India, the accident took place around 3:15 PM on October 15, when Abhay returned home from school. While reaching for clothes in the cupboard, he inadvertently brushed against a bag that was precariously placed on an upper shelf. The impact caused the bag to tumble down, resulting in the revolver firing upon hitting the floor. Abhay sustained a bullet wound to his leg, leading to immediate concern among family members and neighbours. Accident Caught on Camera in Pune: 2 Injured After Car Hits and Drags 2-Wheeler Following Head-On Collision in Pimple Gurav, Video Surfaces.

Authorities identified the revolver as belonging to Abhay's father, Nitin Shirke, a 40-year-old retired army personnel who currently works as a security guard for a state minister. Nitin had acquired the firearm during his service in Jammu & Kashmir and reportedly stored it in a manner that did not comply with safety regulations. Pune: Mother-Son Duo Fall on Metro Tracks at Civil Court Elevated Station, Saved by Alert Guard (Watch Video).

Authorities emphasised that the weapon should have been stored unloaded and in a secure location, especially in a household with children.
