Pulwama Terror Attack: Media Houses Get Request Not to Show Martyrs’ Kin on Screen, Says Action Would Boost Terrorists’ Cause

New Delhi, February 15: A day after the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued advisory to the television channels, reminding them to be cautious while reporting the dastardly terror attack on CRPF convoy in Awantipore area of Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir, a request is being circulated via WhatsApp which says the media not to show the relatives of the 38 martyrs. This request has been made to avoid boosting the cause of terrorists and added that media houses to react responsibly during the sensitive times.

Requesting the media on Friday, the message from reliable sources reads, “It is requested that news channels avoid showing images of families in this moment of despair & vulnerability. Such images furthers the cause of the terrorists. Earlier on Thursday, the Union I&B Ministry had issued an advisory to the media houses and stressed on adhering to the guidelines of broadcasting rules during sensitive times. It said, “In light of the recent terrorist attack, TV channels are advised to be particularly cautious with regard to any content which is likely to encourage or incite violence or contains anything against maintenance of law and order or which promotes anti-national attitudes; and/or contains anything affecting the integrity of the nation.”

In the deadliest attack in decades, more than 40 CRPF personnel were martyred in Jammu and Kashmir when a Jaish suicide bomber rammed a vehicle carrying over 100 kg of explosives into their bus in Pulwama district on Thursday. More than 2,500 Central Reserve Police Force personnel, many of them returning from leave to rejoin duty in the Valley, were travelling in the convoy of 78 vehicles when they were ambushed on the Srinagar-Jammu highway at Latoomode in Awantipora in south Kashmir.
