Pulwama, February 14: The Union Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday appealed to members of international community to support the proposal to list terrorists, including JeM Chief, as a designated terrorist under 1267 Sanctions Committee of UN Security Council. It also sought the members to ban the terror organisations operating from territories controlled by Pakistan. The MEA appeal comes after the 43 CRPF jawans were martyred in the gruesome Fidayeen attack by JeM on the convoy of 76th Batallion of the CRPF while they were plying on the Srinagar-Jammu highway in Awantipore area of Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.
Condemning the biggest attacks on brave soldiers cowardly for a terrorist organisation – JeM – the MEA stated that it should be banned by the UN Security Council and international sanctions be imposed on it. According to the latest report, 43 jawans were martyred, while 46 others are critically injured. All the injured jawans are being treated in the nearest hospital. With the gruesome incident taken place, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a Union Cabinet Committee on Security to meet at 9:15 am tomorrow and would discuss on the future course of action. Also, the Union Minister of Home Affairs Rajnath Singh has cancelled all his scheduled meeting and will depart for Srinagar to take stock of the situation.
Meanwhile, NSA Ajit Doval is chairing a meeting with the senior officials and making a stock of the situation. A team of A team of 12-member National Investigation Agency has been assigned the job to probe the incident, and a 12-member team will go to the blast site tomorrow morning. Condemning the gruesome attack, Ambassadors of Russia, United States of America and France have expressed their condolences. Even the Prime Minister of Nepal and Maldives have condemned the incident. The Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik urged all the Security Forces Commanders to enhance surveillance on every front and directed the District and Divisional Civil and Police Administration to immediately review the security management of all important installations and establishments. He has even stated that the attack was carried out with the help from across border, i.e. Pakistan.
