Chandigarh, May 5: As soon as it came to light that parents of a slain CRPF jawan, who lost his life in Pulwama terror attack, were duped of Rs 1.5 lakh in the name of compensation, the CRPF issued an advisory instructing the parents of Pulwama martyrs in Punjab to be careful of any person approaching them with the prospect of providing them extra compensation. Kulwinder Singh, a CRPF jawan who was martyred in Pulwama Terror Attack on February 14, 2019, belonged to Punjab, Rohar. The parents of the martyred soldier were duped by a conman and gang who reportedly turned up in CRPF uniform. The accused promised the parents of Kulwinder that they would deposit Rs 29 lakh in the bank accounts of the parents, but for that they would have to clear their bank accounts first.
According to reports, the accused first tried to withdraw all the amount from the bank account of martyr Kulwinder Singh's parents, but when they failed to do so because of bank provisions, they took away Rs 1.5 lakh from the bank.
DIG, CRPF (Jalandhar) Darshan Lal Gola, was quoted saying by the Indian Express that family members of CRPF men from Punjab region have been told to be alert about such fraudsters. Officers and ASI rank officials have been instructed to be in touch with parents of slain jawans, so that they do not get duped again. The men who cheated the martyrs parents are still at large and the motorcycle they had taken from the family was found abandoned.
