Pulwama Terror Attack: Jammu And Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik Admits Intelligence Failure, Says 'We Are Fault Also'

Srinagar, February 15: Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik admitted intelligence failure following deaths of over 40 jawans in the worst-ever terror attack that took place in Pulwama on Thursday. Malik conceded that security forces failed to track Adil Ahmad Dar alias Waqas Commando and could not detect the loading and movement of the explosive-laden SUV that was used in the attack.
"We cannot accept that (intelligence failure). We could not detect or check the vehicle full of explosives moving on the highway. We must accept that we are at fault also," Malik told a leading daily. The Governor said Dar was on the radar of security forces but they could not trace him. He also said there were no inputs from intelligence agencies about the presence of a trained suicide bomber among militants. "The fact that we did not know that there was a Fidayeen among them is also part of the intelligence failure. I can admit that. This man (Dar) was very much on our list of suspects. But due to the pressure they were under, no one was giving them shelter in their homes. So he must have escaped to the jungles or the hills and got lost. We knew about him but could not trace him," Malik was quoted as saying. List of 42 Jawans on CRPF Bus Attacked By JeM in Jammu & Kashmir.
He vowed to eliminate all militants, adding that a strategy will be chalked out soon. “The strategy will be decided in the security reviews but I can tell you that within three months we will finish them off. We have held panchayat elections and municipality elections and not a bird has been killed. In earlier occasions, so many people lost their lives during elections,” Malik said.
A 12-member team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) and another team of the national security guards (NSG) are expected to arrive here to assist the police in the investigation of the terror strike.
