Bengaluru, February 28: Kalavati, the widow of constable H Guru who lost his life in a suicide bombing in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama, has approached the police after she was allegedly forced to marry her brother-in-law. Kalavati alleged her in-laws are forcing her to marry Guru's younger brother so that all the compensation money remains in the family. The police have not registered a case but asked the Pulwama martyr's family to resolve the matter with his widow.

Besides compensation from the Karnataka government and the Army, financial contributions have been pouring in for the family of Guru since the February 14 Pulwama attack. Kalavati on Wednesday approached Mandya police seeking their assistance to resolve the issue. The police advised Kalavati to be patient and warned her in-laws of serious repercussion if they don't resolve the issue.

"It’s a family dispute and a sensitive matter. If there is a violation of law, then the law will take its own course," a police officer told a leading daily. Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Wednesday assured that steps would be taken to provide Kalavathi with a government job. Earlier, Kumaraswamy's son Nikhil had asked transport minister DC Thammanna to ensure that Kalavati gets a government job at the earliest.

Guru, along with 39 CRPF personnel, lost his life when a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist carried out a suicide bombing in Pulwama on February 14.
