New Delhi, January 19: Union Home Minister Amit Shah administered the polio drops to a child in Karnataka's Hubballi on Sunday on the occasion of Pulse Polio Day. Shah attended a programme has been launched by the government to eradicate the disease from the nation. Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan had announced to conduct National Immunisation Pulse Polio Programme from nationwide today.

On Saturday, President Ram Nath Kovind had administered Polio drops to children. He also launched the National Immunization Day, also known as 'Polio Ravivar'. Though India is free from polio, the drops are given to the children below five years as the disease persists in neighbouring countries. The Pulse Polio Immunization programme, launched in 1995, caters to around 172 million children every day.

On the Pulse Polio Day on Sunday, scores of kids below the age of five will be given pulse polio vaccine drops throughout the nation. The vaccination drive will be the latest in a series of consolidated government efforts to fight against the deadly virus.
