Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Video Row: Child Rights' Commission Issues Notice to Congress General Secretary

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) on Thursday issued a notice to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra over a video in which children were seen chanting slogans including a derogatory one against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

New Delhi, May 2: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) on Thursday issued a notice to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra over a video in which children were seen chanting slogans including a derogatory one against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The commission in a notice said, “A video in which it is seen that children are being involved in campaigning and can be seen shouting slogans using derogatory remarks and abusive language in your presence.” Amethi Lok Sabha Constituency in Uttar Pradesh: Candidates, Current MP, Polling Date and Election Results 2019.

In its letter, the NCPCR stated that it has apprised the Election Commission (EC) about the complaint and for purpose of inquiry into any violation of child rights, it seeks information on "(a) Name and address of these children; (b) place where this sloganeering had taken place; and (c) how the children were brought there." The commission has also provided three days time to Priyanka to file her reply.

After the video went viral, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) slammed Priyanka. However, she accused the saffron party of twisting the truth by circulating an edited clip. Two versions of the video are being circulated. In the clipped version, only children are seeing abusing PM Modi. The Lok Sabha elections in Amethi will take place in the fifth phase on May 6. Congress President Rahul Gandhi is contesting against union minister Smriti Irani. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
