Chittapur, June 1: After the Bharatiya Janata Party national president Amit Shah took charge of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Indian National Congress MLA Priyank Kharge took a jibe at the newly appointed minister saying that the MHA can be renamed as the "ministry of providing clean chits". He made this statement in a sarcastic Twitter post. BJP President Amit Shah Takes Charge as New Home Minister.
"Now that we have a new Home Minister, I think it is better to rename the Ministry of Home Affairs as Ministry of Providing Clean Chits, " said Congress MLA from Chittapur. Reacting to his statement, Karnataka BJP chief BS Yeddyurappa condemned it and blamed Priyank's attitude for his father Mallikarjun Kharge's defeat in the Lok Sabha elections.

"Because of Priyank, Mallikarjun Kharge lost at least 1 lakh votes. He is speaking non-sense without any bases," Yeddyurappa said. Karnataka MP and newly appointed minister of chemicals and fertilizers DV Sadanand Gowda also criticised Priyank's tweet.
Karnataka's social welfare minister Priyank's statement comes after his father Mallikarjun Kharge's defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections bringing an end to his winning streak of 10 consecutive election victories. The veteran leader was defeated by BJP's Umesh Jadhav in Gulbarga by a margin of 95,452 votes.
