New Delhi, August 25: In a bizarre incident, a prisoner in Delhi's Tihar Jail swallowed a mobile phone after Police came to know that he had the smuggled gadget with him inside the cell. A tiny Chinese-made mobile phone was found from the stomach of a prisoner lodged in Delhi's Tihar Jail, reports informed. According to a report by IANS, the prisoner was an inmate of Jail No. 4 inside Tihar. After he swallowed the tiny cell phone, doctors had to get it vomited out of his body. An even more shocking incident was reported in the last week where a prisoner swallowed four such tiny mobile phones wrapped in plastic. The reports states that doctors got three phones vomited out. Moreover, an ultrasound had to be conducted after the prisoner complained of pain. The ultrasound revealed a mobile phone stuck in the rectum and the doctors had to perform a surgery to remove the device.
The recent recoveries have been made by the Tihar Jail authorities after a major crack down on communication gadgets smuggled into the jail. According to a report by IANS, newly appointed Director General of Delhi Prisons, Sandeep Goyal has emphasised that dismantling the syndicate of gangs that supply mobile phones to jail inmates remains his priority.
Earlier this month, a sophisticated cell-phone was found in the jail's meditation ward. Reports inform that this ward presently houses some high-profile prisoners. The mobile phone was found plugged into the TV port for charging when a special search team raided the ward around 3 p.m. The incident took place when the jail staff was changing duties, the inmates were resting in their barracks then.
