New Delhi, June 20: President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday while addressing the joint sitting of both the houses of Parliament at the Central Hall of Parliament in Delhi, praised the welfare policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government at the Centre. Congratulating the Bharatiya Janata Party for getting a clear mandate after almost three decades in the Parliament's Lower House, President Kovind stated the fact that over 61 crore citizens cast their vote and set a new record in the currently held Lok Sabha Elections. Highlighting the issue of the current water crisis in the country, President mentioned that the ruling dispensation took cognisance of the issue and had formed Jal Shakti ministry, which would play a decisive step towards countering the crisis.
Praising the Union government's noble step to help the ailing farmers, he said, "My government stands with people who are facing drought and water scarcity...The centre is working with the states to improve the livelihood of farmers." Adding on, he said, "Rs 12,000 crore have already reached the farmers of the country."
Among other things, President spoke about India's tough action against terrorism and allied heinous acts. He spoke on GST, national defence fund, livestock farming, fish farming, MUDRA Yojana, women empowerment, Ayushman Bharat Yojana, and 'Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao'. Other than that, President spoke on sustainable development of India and said that India is emerging as one of the most powerful economies of the world.
Direct Benefit Transfer, Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, Fugitive and Economic Offenders Act, Make In India, One Nation One Transport Card, among others were the topics that he included in his speech.
