In a recent exhibit of the poor medical services in the country, a family in Madhya Pradesh is seen carrying a pregnant woman on a cot after the ambulance helpline number 108 failed to respond in time. The short video shows the family members carry the pregnant woman through the flooded streets in Tikamgarh, struggling to wade through it.
The lady was experiencing heavy labour pain, following which her family members resorted to the helpline number 108. Their request of availing an ambulance immediately saw a sorry end as the water-clogged streets ensured that the ambulance was unable to reach their village in time.

Last week, a pregnant woman in Chhatarpur, in Madhya Pradesh again, was forced to deliver in a moving bus after the hospital authorities denied her request to avail an ambulance. A day after she was admitted into the hospital, she was asked to get herself transferred to a different hospital, the next day.
However, when the couple asked the concerned officials for an ambulance, they were outrightly denied. The following denial saw the pregnant lady resort to public transport and eventually deliver the baby in a moving bus. Sad!
Monsoons in India create havoc beyond one’s imagination. The disruption created in the daily life of common public is unimaginable. Add to it, the misery of mediocre infrastructure at several places only worsens the situation. There have been instances during the current rainy season, too, where lack of medical facilities have made people resort to such unprecedented acts.
It is understandable that, sometimes, due to extreme weather conditions the concerned medical authorities fail to reach the proper spot in time. However, failure to respond to an emergency call, as grim as delivering a baby, only shows the sorry state of affairs that are prevailing in the country.
