Prayagraj, October 3: In a tragic incident in the Nawabganj area of Prayagraj, a three-year-old girl lost her life after a balloon burst while inflating. The incident took place in Lal Gopalganj, Gangnagar, when she was playing with a balloon given to her by her grandfather. The family members rushed her to a nearby private hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead after examination.
The deceased girl, identified as Saira, visited her grandparents, house when the unfortunate incident took place. Saira's mother reported that her daughter had been happily playing with the balloon when it suddenly burst. The impact caused Saira to collapse, and foam began to appear in her mouth. According to doctors, the cause of death was attributed to pieces of the balloon getting lodged in the child's airway. Dr. Sachin Jain, the head of the ENT department at Motilal Nehru Medical College, provided a detailed explanation regarding the dangers associated with children playing with balloons. He emphasised that it is a common behaviour for young children to bring balloons close to their mouths when they attempt to blow them up or pop them. This seemingly innocent action can lead to serious and sometimes fatal consequences. When children blow up a balloon, they often inhale air along with the balloon's fragments or parts, which can inadvertently become lodged in their airways. This situation poses a significant risk of suffocation, especially for young children whose airways are narrower and more susceptible to obstruction. In Saira's tragic case, it appears that the balloon she was playing with burst, causing fragments to enter her airway. The consequences were devastating, resulting in her inability to breathe and ultimately leading to her untimely death.
