Bhopal, April 23: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers on Tuesday thrashed a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) worker at SDM office in Bhopal after he allegedly showed black flags to Pragya Singh Thakur during her roadshow. Thakur is contesting the Bhopal Lok Sabha constituency on the BJP ticket against the Congress spokesperson Digvijaya Singh. The BJP candidate today completed filing nomination papers from Bhopal. Thakur joined the saffron party on April 17 and on the same day she was declared a party candidate on the same day. Before filing the nomination papers, the BJP candidate held a roadshow.

Yesterday, Pragya filed only a single form on a ‘Shubh Muhorat’. The BJP candidate is out on bail after serving over nine years in jail in connection with the September 29, 2008 blast in Maharashtra's Malegaon in which six people were killed and nearly 100 injured. Recently, Pragya sparked controversy by insulting 26/11 martyr Hemant Karkare saying 'he died because he was cursed'.
The BJP leader went on to further say that Karkare, who was the former Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief in the deadly 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, was a traitor. In 2019, the voting in Bhopal will take place on May 12. The Lok Sabha constituency is a bastion of the BJP in Madhya Pradesh as the party has been winning the seat continuously since 1989. The last Congress MP elected from Bhopal was K N Pradhan in 1984. Pradhan had defeated Laxminarayan Sharma of the BJP by over 1 lakh votes. Lok Sabha elections will be held in Madhya Pradesh in four phases on April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19. The results will be declared on May 23.
