Potholes in Mumbai: Wife and Son Killed After Man’s Bike Skids on Mankhurd-Ghatkopar Link Road

The report further informs that the woman and her kid fell off the bike while her husband was riding it on the Mankhurd-Ghatkopar Link Road. The man, however, suffered minor injuries.

Mumbai, October 29: The increasing number of accidents due to potholes on Mumbai roads have raised growing concerns among Mumbaikars. A latest pothole accident was reported from Ghatkopar area on Saturday where a woman and her 11-month old son fell off as the bike they were sitting on, skid due to a pothole on the road.  According to a report by TOI, a 29-year-old mother and her son fell off a bike and were run over by a BMC garbage dumper. The accident took place when her husband was riding the bike on the Mankhurd-Ghatkopar Link Road on Saturday. The man, however, suffered minor injuries.

According to the complainant, the dumper driver was at a high speed and couldn’t realise there was a pothole in front of the road. The complainant, Pramod Dhadsi who is a resident of Kanjurmarg told the Police that the driver kept honking and was driving at high speed. He added saying that the driver tried to avoid the pothole but skid off the road. Mumbai Potholes: BMC to Start Reconstruction Work on 1343 Roads Across the City From October. 

The report informs that the Deonar police has arrested the dumper driver. The driver has been charged for his negligence, rash and negligent driving and also under the Motor Vehicle Act.

In August, a Mumbai resident had claimed to have collected more than 27,000 photos and videos of potholes as part of his campaign to highlight poor condition of roads in Mumbai. The man, Navin Lade, wanted Mumbai to figure in record books for its poor road condition. However, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), tasked with maintaining roads, has dismissed Lade's campaign as a "publicity stunt".
