Mumbai, September 8: A 47-year-old Auto Rickshaw driver died on Saturday due to civic apathy in Mumbai. According to news reports, potholes caused the death of an innocent man when he was passing through service road next to the Western Express Highway in Bandra. On Saturday evening, Nirmal bumped his auto into a pothole in the middle of the road. The potholes were not visible due to heavy rainfall in the city. After hitting the crater, the auto driver lost control over the vehicle. Nirmal fell out and he was crushed under his vehicle. Passersby pulled him out of the upside-down auto. Nirmal and the two passengers were taken to the VN Desai hospital. Nirmal suffered internal injuries and faced difficulty in breathing. Hours later, he succumbed to his injuries. The Kherwadi police have filed a case of accidental death.
This is not the first incident of a pothole-related accident. Last week, a five-year-old boy from Navi Mumbai's Ghansoli died after he was thrown away from a motorbike when his father hit a pothole on Ghodbunder road. He was crushed under a tempo.
