Pot in Wood! 1000 Kgs of Cannabis, Concealed in Wood Logs, Seized From Visakhapatnam

The cannabis was concealed under seven tonnes of casuarina wood logs.

Visakhapatnam, July 16: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in Andhra Pradesh apprehended two people and seized more than 1000 kgs of cannabis amounting to Rs 1.67 crore from Visakhapatnam's Payakaraopeta on Sunday.

News agency ANI reported that the cannabis was concealed under seven tonnes of casuarina wood logs. Police investigation is underway in the case. Check out the ANI tweet and pictures of the casuarina wood logs which were used for concealing the cannabis:

Earlier in the year, on April 24, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) had seized 1,394 kilograms of cannabis worth Rs 2,09,14,800 in Vijayawada. A TATA cargo vehicle was used to smuggle the cannabis and the DRI had acted based on specific intelligence.

On July 8, the Narcotics Control Bureau on had arrested two persons at the international airport for carrying 11 kg of cannabis.

In June 2018, Canada became only the second country after Uruguay to make Cannabis legal. Cannabis finds a mention in ancient Indian texts as well as in Ayurveda but the consumption of Cannabis and Marijuana is illegal in India.
