Post Cyclone Fani, Life Returns to Normalcy in Odisha, Over 60% ATMs Now Functioning in Affected Districts
The affected people in the state are yet to get basic facilities like safe drinking water, electricity and telecommunication. However, the functioning of ATMs in affected areas has improved in the last few days.
Bhubaneswar, May 16: Even after two weeks of Cyclone Fani hitting the Odisha coast, people in several affected areas of the state are still struggling to get basic facilities. The affected people in the state are yet to get basic facilities like safe drinking water, electricity and telecommunication. However, the functioning of ATMs in affected areas has improved in the last few days. Sanjaya Singh, Secy, Information & PR Dept, Odisha said a number of ATMs have started working in different districts affected by cyclone. "I think more than 60% ATMs are functioning in other districts, only in Puri there has been a little concern", Singh said.
Even though life is limping back to normal in urban areas of Odisha, the rural areas are still struggling for basic needs. Singh further added saying that, Puri, which was the worst affected is also coming back to normalcy at a very fast pace. He added saying that 25 mobile ATMs were sent, 13 have been deployed by Odisha State Cooperative Bank in Puri district, 12 have been deployed by different banks.

Earlier this week, the death toll in the Cyclone Fani has now been put at 64 with 39 deaths in Puri alone. Nine deaths occurred in Khurdha district, six in Cuttack, four in Mayurbhanj and three each in Jaipur and Kendrapara. The damage caused due to Cyclone Fani is estimated to be Rs 524 crore worth of assets, according to the Housing and Urban Development Department assessment. Housing and Urban Development Secretary G. Mathivathanan said Rs 524 crore infrastructure was damaged by the cyclone in 53 urban local bodies in 14 districts.
