Police Security Beefed Up for Convent at Kuruvalangadu in Kerala, Where Nun Who Allegedly Raped by Catholic Bishop Stays

Kottayam, July 22: Protection has been stepped up by the police to a convent near Kuruvalangadu in Kerala which is home to a nun who had alleged that she was sexually abused by a Catholic bishop. According to a report by IANS, trouble began for Franco Mulakkal, the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Jalandhar (Punjab) in June when the nun alleged that she was sexually abused by him several times between 2014 and 2016. A police team is now in Bengaluru to meet a few nuns who previously resided in the convent.
An FIR was registered against the bishop and a 114-page detailed statement was taken from the nun and other inmates of the convent at Kuruvalangadu. She alleged that the abuse took place at the convent. Meanwhile, Mulakkal maintains that he has done no wrong.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, the incident came at a time when a believer of the Orthodox Church filed a complaint against five priests alleging that they sexually exploited his wife for many years on the basis of a confession she made to one of them.
