Mumbai, Jul 29: In what could had turned into a tragic incident, a police constable deployed for Bihar lawmaker Shatrughan Sinha's security mistakenly fired a bullet from his service gun. Fortunately, the bullet did not strike anyone.

According to news agency PTI, the near-fatal incident occurred late evening on Friday, outside the residence of Sinha in Juhu, a suburb in Mumbai region. While the constable has been reprimanded, no word was out whether action would be taken against him.

An official privy to the matter confirmed to reporters earlier today that no one was hurt in the accidental discharge of the bullet.

Sinha, a former parliamentarian and actor, is serving as the Lok Sabha MP from Patna Sahib constituency in Bihar. The 72-year-old, who is associated with the BJP since 1989, has also served as a Union Minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led erstwhile NDA government.

Over the past three years, Sinha has turned into a rebel marking his dissent publicly against most decisions taken by the party top brass. His dissidence, analysts claim, arises from his purported sidlining within the BJP after Prime Minister Narendra Modi was elected to power.
