NewDelhi, September 10: After Interpol issued a red corner notice (RCN) against Nirav Modi’s sister, now the reports have also surfaced that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)  had sent an extradition request against his brother, Nishal Modi to Ministry of Home Affairs on September 07. The notice was issued against Purvi Modi in connection with the alleged USD 2 billion Punjab National Bank (PNB) money laundering case.

The notice stated that 44-year-old Purvi is required on charges of "money laundering". The Enforcement Directorate requested the RCN against her (ED). Purvi was named in ED’s first charge sheet in the case in March and charged her with laundering the alleged proceeds of crime generated by defrauding the Brady House branch of the Punjab National Bank in Mumbai.

According to the Interpol notice, Purvi speaks English, Gujarati and Hindi and is a Belgian national. Once an RCN is issued against a fugitive, Interpol asks its 192 member countries to arrest or detain the person is spotted in their countries after which extradition or deportation proceedings can begin. A similar notice was issued against Nirav Modi sometime back as part of a joint probe by the ED and the CBI in the case.

The Enforcement Directorate is investigating Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi for allegedly cheating the PNB, the country’s second-largest lender, to the tune of more than USD 2 billion. Other central agencies are also probing the duo and others after the fraud came to light this year following a complaint by the PNB
