PMC Bank Depositor Dies of Cardiac Arrest, Second Death in Less Than 24 Hours

A customer of the crisis-hit Punjab & Maharashtra Cooperative (PMC) Bank Ltd died of cardiac arrest on Tuesday.

Mumbai, October 15: A customer of the crisis-hit Punjab & Maharashtra Cooperative (PMC) Bank Ltd died of cardiac arrest on Tuesday, reports said. The deceased was identified as Fatto Punjabi who had an account in PMC Bank's Mulund Branch. This is the second such death in less than 24 hours. On Monday evening, PMC Bank depositor Sanjay Gulati died allegedly of stress.

The withdrawal restrictions on PMC Bank accounts came as a double whammy for Gulati who had already lost his job earlier this year following the collapse of the Jet Airways. With a specially-abled son at home, the 51-year-old Gulati needed regular cash in hand for his treatment and care which became impossible after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) placed stringent limits on cash withdrawals by the bank's depositors. Waryam Singh, Ex-PMC Bank Chairman, Owns Rs 400-Crore Business Hotel in Amritsar, Land Worth Rs 2,500 Cr in Juhu: Reports.

Sanjay Gulati's Last Words:

Gulati on Monday afternoon returned home to Oshiwara suburb after participating in a demonstration with some 200 other customers against the PMC Bank scam in south Mumbai. As Gulati was eating, he suddenly a cardiac arrest and was rushed to the nearby Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

The RBI had imposed wide-ranging sanctions on the PMC Bank and barred people from withdrawing more than Rs 1000 initially; later it was raised to Rs 25,000 and on Monday (October 14) to Rs 40,000.
