Mumbai, October 14: The suspended MD of scam-hit Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative (PMC) Bank, Joy Thomas, during his interrogation revealed that he had converted to Islam in 2005 to marry his personal assistant. Thomas is presently in police custody in the Rs 4,355-crore PMC Bank loot case. The police have reportedly discovered nine flats and a shop registered under his second wife’s name in Pune.

According to a Quint report, these investments amount to approximately Rs 4-5 crore. He admitted that he led a double life with two families. Police said that Joy Thomas converted to Islam and became Junaid Khan to marry his PA. The woman quit her job in 2005 and informed her office that she was getting married and will be soon moving to Dubai, police said.

The accused, Thomas, confessed that his Islamic name 'Junaid' was not used in any official or financial transactions. An officer quoted in a Times of India report said, "He and his second wife had adopted a girl, who is now 11 years old. They also have a 10-year-old son. The second wife makes and sells chocolates, has a boutique, and draws rent from the Pune properties."

Thomas's first wife filed for divorce upon learning about his deception. The case proceedings are in the final stage. Thomas reportedly got married for the second time, when he was already married to his first wife.
