New Delhi, July 1: The Goods and Services Tax (GST), which was introduced on July 1, 2017, has completed two years with the motto of "One nation, one tax." Taking to Twitter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday spoke about the completion of two years of GST. PM Modi said that it is a major reform which fulfilled the dream of "One Nation, One Tax." He said in a tweet: "Introduction of GST remains a great example of cooperative federalism," he said in a tweet. PM Modi also congratulated everyone who made GST possible. In a blog, Jaitley spoke about the GST Council as a first statutory federal institution of India in which the Centre and states jointly decided to create one common market. The first GST council was chaired by Arun Jaitley from 2017 to 2019. The current GST council is chaired by former Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman who took oath as finance minister in 2.0 Modi Government.
