New Delhi, May 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged voters in 59 Lok Sabha constituencies in seven states and a union territory polling in the final phase of 2019 general elections to step out and "vote in record numbers". In the seventh phase, Bihar - 8, Jharkhand - 3, Madhya Pradesh - 8, Punjab - 13, West Bengal - 9, Chandigarh - 1, Uttar Pradesh - 13 and Himachal Pradesh - 4 went into the poll. PM Narendra Modi is seeking a second term in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi from where he won the 2014 general election by over 3.7 lakh votes. He is challenged by Indian National Congress's Ajay Rai and BSP-SP grand alliance candidate Shalini Yadav.
As the high-voltage poll campaigning came to an end on Friday, Premier began a two-day visit to hill state Uttarakhand. PM Modi was seen meditating in a holy cave near Kedarnath shrine. He will also visit Badrinath on Sunday before heading back to the national capital in the afternoon.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh also urged voters to cast their vote for the "future of the country." "Polling for seventh and the last phase of Lok Sabha polls has started. I request all the voters of 59 seats going to polls today to come out and vote in record numbers. Your vote has the power to strengthen democracy and build the future of this country," he tweeted.

"Only a strong leadership can ensure security, development and dignity for a nation. Only with clear intent can we ensure basic facilities like a house, electricity, water and gas for the poor. I appeal to all the people voting in the last phase to vote for development and vote for the growing confidence in the new India," BJP chief Amit Shah said in a tweet.
